Why I’m doing this investigation

Many of you have reached out expressing support and words of encouragement which I sincerely appreciate. However, one question keeps popping up. Why are you doing this Ryan? I wanted to take some time to share what is driving me to go so deep on Clair Health.

In reality, my concerns go beyond Clair Health specifically and are for the Stanford community as a whole. I know that there are numerous Stanford founders working their tails off and putting everything on the line for a shot at changing the world. As Nassim Taleb has pointed out, our society runs on the unacknowledged failures of founders who risk ruin so we can enjoy the successes. I deeply respect their efforts and want to ensure that those who are building real things can receive the funding they need. And that can't happen if VCs keep allocating millions to people like Clair Health.

The problem with Clair Health is not only its direct impact, it is the second and third order effects it creates. Stanford students who see Clair Health raise an impressive $11.6 million seed round will inevitably look up to them as inspiration and use them as an example of how to achieve success. And this is where the problems begin. Imagine the next generation of Stanford founders basing their success off of a pair of Stanford grads who have deceived VCs.

This is where I believe I need to step in to bring the whole Clair Health situation back to reality. And it really shouldn't be just me. If any of you want to help spread the word or do your own investigations, I welcome it. It's just that when I started this investigation, I didn't see any Stanford people sounding the alarm. So I decided that if no one else will, then I'd better do it.

Believe it or not, a large portion of the Stanford community is aware that Clair Health has problems and borders on grifting. But since their inception, no one has come forward to speak out strongly against them and point out the mirage. This highlights the fear that controls many of us. The fear of what others think can hold us back from helping the world. I hope that my investigation can also encourage others to find the courage and stand up for the truth.

Remember this: if you don't, no one else will.
